Rosy Simas Dance Projects presents
Have Gun Will Shoot
March 1-3
Rosy Simas Dance Projects presents Have Gun Will Shoot, a dance and media work exploring patriotism, duty, power, betrayal and the fog of war.
This projects brings together a eclectic group of artists: visual artist Patrick Maun, lighting designer Debbie Tallen, sound designer Mark Ruark, and dancers Josie Arrowsmith, Margot Bassett, Jennifer Mack, Deborah Jinza Thayer and Anna Resele.
Simas' choreography is highly physical and emotionally charged. Her movement sentences are characterized by development and phrasing that leaves no crevice undiscovered. Her own dancing is fluid, graceful and inviting.
Simas has been making dance since 1990. She has presented work in Wisconsin, California and Minnesota. Locally, her work has been presented at many venues ranging from small galleries like No Name, to bars like First Avenue and major dance stages like O'Shaughnessy. (see Bio Below)
“Rosy Simas wraps herself up in the stars and stripes--literally--in a work that challenges the complicated issues surrounding patriotism, power, and duty in an era marked by an unpopular war and a dishonest government. Accompanied by a cast of seven dancers ... Simas Guthrie combines elements of theater, improvisation, and modern dance to explore both the personal and societal implications of being soldier, citizen, and/or artist. It's a protest dance of sorts, but subtle enough to transcend the limitations of current events and political ideology." --Caroline Palmer, City Pages
