AMMALA MIDDLE EASTERN DANCE PRESENTS
GRANDMOTHER'S TRAIL:
HOW NINA AND NAJMA GOT THEIR GROOVE BACK
JULY 14-16, 2006

A fantastic fairytale voyage in music and dance, Grandmother's Trail celebrates oral tradition and the power of sisterhood through a dance theater play presented in the opening season of the new Ritz Theater in Northeast Minneapolis.
Grandmother’s Trail: How Nina and Najma Got Their Groove Back—a story of two sisters, separated by fate and bound by a determined spirit, who make their separate ways from India to Andalusia—will be presented by Ammala Middle Eastern Dance & Music, July 14 – 16, as part of the opening season of the new Ritz Theater.
Inspired by the Romany (Gypsy) trail, the story of Grandmother’s Trail is told as fable-a bed time story that is both humorous and poignant—as seen through the eyes of a young girl. The performance includes an ensemble cast featuring the Ammala performers and apprentices, Derek Phillips of Katha Dance, LeAnne Wilcox Spears, and introducing youth actresses Alexandra “Asa” Indritz and Claire Indritz in their first professional stage roles.
