Minneapolis, MN – Join the Minnesota Dance Community for an evening of elegance and celebration at the 3rd Annual Minnesota SAGE Awards for Dance on Wednesday October 3rd, 2007 at the Ritz Theater in Minneapolis. Social hour will begin at 7pm with Judith Howard and Morris Johnson presiding as Masters of Ceremonies for the gala event at 8pm. Performances by past SAGE honorees to include Brian Sostek, Morgan Thorson and Minnesota Dance Theater performing a work by Wynn Fricke.
The SAGE Awards are given annually for outstanding achievement in five categories for work presented in the previous year. Awards recipients will be selected by an anonymous group of peer panelists in the following categories: Performance, Performer, Design, Special Citation and People’s Choice. This years SAGE Award recipients will receive a commissioned work by Twin Cities visual and ceramic artist Josh Blanc.
The SAGE Awards are named in honor of Sage Cowles with heartfelt appreciation for all she has done for Minnesota Dance. Cowles herself, a choreographer, performer and philanthropist, received an Ernie Award from Dance USA in 2004 for her dance leadership in the Twin Cities and nationally. The SAGE Awards are the brainchild of Stuart Pimsler, director of Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater. “The awards are a celebration of the dance community,” he has said, “They will help to bring national attention to the tremendous amount of high caliber dance activity in the Twin Cities.” The SAGE Awards are generously supported by The McKnight Foundation and the Twin Cities Dance Community.
